Photowalks

Back in the summer of 2008 I took up an introductory photography class with a couple friends: Kyle and Jordan. During this class we learned the basics of photography from a technical standpoint but the class lacked any sort of artistic interpretation of photography. Most of the things we learned could easily be self taught through the miracle of the internet but I did learn one thing that I wasn’t expecting: the awesomeness of photowalks.

Unless you go off the beaten path, you will never come across interesting and beautiful things, which in my opinion are what make a great photograph what it is.

This photo has always stuck with me as one of my personal favorites, which was taken on my very first photo walk during that class. Although it may not be a technically great photo I enjoy going back to look at it and remind myself that without photo walks, and more particularly walking through shady alleyways, it’s hard to come across interesting items that would not otherwise be seen.

I have a recently re-energized to desire to go on more photowalks so look forward to new and interesting photos in the coming weeks… winter sunlight permitting.
